Quebec box office: Top Gun continues to dominate

Almost three months after its takeoff, the new Top Gun continues to be a hit in dark rooms. The sequel to the 1986 cult film even crossed the $10 million mark a few days ago at the Quebec box office.
This is the first time since the start of the pandemic that a film has generated more than $10 million at box offices in the province. According to data from the Cinéac agency, you have to go back to 2019 to find the last two productions to have reached this peak in Quebec, namely Avengers: Endgame ($11.9M) and The Lion King ($10.4 M$).
Released at the end of May after being launched to great fanfare at the Cannes Film Festival, Top Gun: Maverick is a huge success all over the world. In the United States, the film starring Tom Cruise has just risen to 7th place among the most lucrative films in history at the North American box office, just behind Titanic. Globally, Top Gun has grossed over $1.3 billion to date. Tom Cruise and his crew can certainly say mission accomplished!
Arlette in 6th place
As for Quebec films, the political comedy Arlette, which marks Maripier Morin's return to the limelight, held on to sixth place at the provincial box office during its second indoor weekend. After ten days in theaters, the film directed by Mariloup Wolfe has grossed $340,416.
Nearly a month after its release, the thriller Confessions< /em>, by Luc Picard, is still in the top 10 of the most popular films and to date has taken in $1.1 million. As for the Quebec novelty of the week, the satirical comedy Les tricheurs, it made its debut at the 9th with a collection of $29,853.
