Québec is injecting $ 24.4 million to expand the bike network from the Route verte.
The announcement was made Wednesday by the minister of Transport, François Bonnardel, in the presence of the president and CEO of Vélo Québec, Suzanne Lareau, in particular.
The first component of the program in question, Swift III, is the development of the Route verte and its branches as well as the improvement of transport infrastructure assets, and this, over two years.
“Being myself a cyclist, I am particularly pleased that our government has at heart the promotion of bicycle tourism,” said minister by way of a press release. Our government is proud to contribute to the development of new infrastructure which will benefit the whole of the population. Regions need quality infrastructure to attract cyclists year after year.”
A second component aims to support eligible organizations in the improvement of transport infrastructure assets and the completion of major interventions on these.
The Route verte, a bikeway network of more than 5300 km, which crosses 382 municipalities in the province, is celebrating this year its 25th anniversary. On its website, in particular, it is referred to as the “most extensive bicycle route in North America”.
