Régionale 3/1re Journée/Le club s’en est remis à son buteur pour gagner à Frontignan 18-17, ce dimanche 22 septembre 18-17.
With a 6 out of 7 penalty shootout, winger Hugo Lopez allowed RCO Salagou, who alternated between good and bad, to secure a first victory 18-17 at the Entente Frontignan/Saint-Jean this Sunday to open the championship. The club is ideally starting its season with the reception of Mèze, Sunday at the Estagnol de Clermont-l’Hérault.
"A working base"
"We had a difficult 30 minutes, because we attacked without having played friendly matches and without certainty. “We managed to calm down, put things back in place and start our match at the end of the first half,” explains Luc Benallouache, who is coaching the group again this year with RCO manager Benoît Rémi.

Deprived of the ball, dominated, Salagou conceded a first try scored by the full-back and scorer Carreno and found themselves trailing 3-10 (19th). A flattering score, without the clumsiness of Carreno who let 6 easy points on the way. Unlike his opposite number Salagou, Hugo Lopez who scored a second penalty to reward the better end of the half by the Yellow and Blue (6-10). At the restart, the visitors increased their pressure and Lopez did the rest to put his team ahead 15-10. But he missed the penalty for 18-10 and after, Frontignan regained the advantage with a new strong try by Maltese under the posts, converted by the center Amaral. Trailing 15-17 (70th), the RCO went on to seek the winning penalty 5 minutes from the end, before imposing a big defensive sequence in its 22 meters to keep its point ahead against an opponent who had the winning ball and the offensive bonus.

"Even if we couldn't score a try and kill the match when we had it in hand, we were able to respond in defense. This victory is pleasing. A few experienced players have arrived to help our youngsters and allow the team to find a good balance." adds Luc Benallouache. "We have a base to work on, we know what we can rely on to progress. We insisted on the state of mind, everything is not perfect in the game but these 4 points will help us move forward. And there, we will first savor." confirms Benoît Rémi.
