The number of cases of COVID-19-related death and disease has seen a slight rebound on Tuesday, in Canada.
To 14 h, Canada were 266 new cases of COVID-19, predominantly identified in Ontario, as well as 17 deaths. There are now 101 903 infections in Canada since the beginning of the pandemic, which has swept away 8453 Canadians.
After having announced any deaths on Monday, a first in nearly three months, the Quebec deplored the seven fatalities, including two deaths that occurred there over a week, for a total of 5424 victims to this day. In parallel, 49 tests were positive in the laboratories, with the balance to 54 884 contamination since the very first case in march.
No hair cut for Doug Ford
For its part, the Ontario continues to suffer the after-effects of the outbreaks on the farms of the south-west of the province. The number of new cases has returned to the top of the bar 200 infections on Tuesday, while 10 deaths were reported.
After having harshly criticized the farmers on Monday, the prime minister, Doug Ford has shown himself more conciliatory on Tuesday promising that his government will work hand-in-hand with farmers to contain the spread of the pandemic among the foreign workers.
“I’ll be there for the farmers, to support them. […] We are going to fix it, as we have been able to solve most of the problems together,” he said in a press conference.
Recall that Mexico had suspended for a few days the sending of seasonal workers in Canada. Three foreign workers were killed in Ontario after having contracted the virus on farms.
Despite this rebound in the balance sheet of ontario, Toronto and the region of Peel will be able to accelerate their déconfinement Wednesday, including allowing the re-opening of the personal care services, terraces and shopping centres. Thus, only the Windsor-Essex region, in the heart of the outbreak in agricultural areas, will remain confined to the phase 1 of the recovery plan.
As an expression of solidarity with Windsor, Mr. Ford has assured that it will not cut the hair as long as all Ontarians will not have initiated phase 2 of the déconfinement. “I will not go on the terrace of a restaurant not more,” he promised.
