Recruitment of 10 000 orderlies: Legault, in fact, a commitment

Recrutement de 10 000 préposés aux bénéficiaires: Legault en fait un engagement

The prime minister François Legault wants to fill the shortage of labor in NURSING homes once and for all, thanks to the accelerated training of 10 000 new orderlies launched on Tuesday.

“I say to myself that if, at the end of my mandate, I had just dealt with the situation in NURSING homes, well, I would be happy already then I would have done a lot if we were able to say, well : Finally, we are treated with dignity then we give all the necessary care to our seniors in our NURSING homes. Just do it, for me, it would be a great achievement, and then I’ll make sure”, he said in the press conference.

Starting June 15, the candidates will begin a training course of 375 hours, which will conclude in mid-September. It is to be paid 760$ per week.

Thereafter, the graduates will be able to access an officer position in NURSING at the salary of$ 49,000 a year. This is an hourly rate of 26$ per hour, including certain premiums.

“There are people, maybe even trade unions, which are going to find that the salaries that are offered in NURSING homes may be too high or come break a balance with the wages that are offered elsewhere, elsewhere in the health network or in other networks, also said Mr. Legault. But me, I say to myself, I’m comfortable that someone is criticizing me because it pays too well our people in NURSING homes to take care of our elders, the most vulnerable, I am ready to take this critical time.”
