MONTREAL | The state of emergency was again renewed, on Friday, on the territory of the Montréal agglomeration. It will be this time in force for a period of five days.
The state of emergency was declared on the 27th of march by the executive committee of the City of Montreal to deal with the pandemic of COVID-19. It has continuously been renewed since.
The state of emergency, which applies under the civil protection Act, gives exceptional powers to the authorities to fight against the virus. Among other things it allows a mobilization of material and human resources to limit its spread to Montreal.
