“Repeated racist insults”: accused of damage to her hotel in Vannes, the ASBH gives its version of the facts

Certains Biterrois ont été victimes de racisme selon leur président. Midi Libre – Michael Esdourrubailh

Accused of damage by their hotel in Vannes, on the sidelines of the Pro D2 semi-final, last Friday May 31, the Biterrois were allegedly victims of racism on the part of the owners of the establishment.

In rugby, victory or defeat, the third half, agape, the collective pleasure after the confrontation, is sacred. In Vannes, after a cruel 27-21 defeat, in the semi-final of Pro D2, among the future champions, the Biterrois celebrated the end of a historic season which saw them regain the peaks of their division.

Ouest-France revealed, on Monday evening, some excesses that occurred on the sidelines of this evening of Friday May 31, which ended early on Saturday morning.

After a festive evening ended in a nightclub at the Villa Kirov, an establishment in Vannes, the Biterrois returned to their hotel, the Brit Hôtel fleur de Rhuys, in Theix-Noyalo, a quarter of an hour’s drive away.

Door broken down and death threats

Drunk, having forgotten the code to open the door, the Hérault residents allegedly forced entry to enter the hotel and thus continue the evening, emptying the hotel bar. ;nbsp; When the manager intervened to stop the noise, she was reportedly threatened with death by the players.

"I’was there, in the same hotel as the players", specifies Jean-Michel Vidal , president of the ASBH. I was told in the morning that they hadn't found the code to get in and had forced the door of the hotel a little. They were singing and drinking but nothing reprehensible, it was loud like rugby players in the third half."

It was only once he returned to Béziers that the manager received a letter mentioning "death threats received by the manager, broken glasses and damaged furniture".

Racist insults throughout the weekend

After contacting the hotel boss, Jean-Michel Vidal assures him that "the players concerned will be sanctioned, their ethics bonuses will be withdrawn and it will not be the club which will pay the damages but the players."

A complaint was reportedly filed by the managers of the Breton establishment, while the owner benefited from eight days of temporary work interruption (ITT).

“For the moment, at the club, we have not received any complaints, summons or invoices, which I requested to reimburse the damage”, notes the president. "I don't want to excuse my players, who had too much to drink, but I learned some worrying things about racism, the day before and the morning of the match, so outside the drinking period."

A complaint filed

According to some players, the managers made racist remarks on several occasions against several of their players over the weekend.

"On returning to Béziers on Monday, I learned that the players had put down a handrail for "racial insults on multiple occasions", there are a few of them who have witnessed these repeated insults", deplores Jean-Michel Vidal.

If he doesn't want to excuse anything from his players, the president of the ASBH doesn't want to pillory them either because ;rsquo;they were celebrating the end of the season."

"The manager has 8 days of ITT because there were death threats, this is obviously not well and I condemn the act, explains the president. But we, the player targeted by the racist remarks, are not either no longer at the psychiatrist because he was the victim of racist insults."

Even on vacation, before a resumption in July, the ASBH continues to be talked about…
