C’est le jeu vidéo "League of legends" qui inaugurera cette grande première vendredi soir avec un quart de finale de Coupe de France.

Karmine Corp, one of the most popular esports clubs in France, is moving into its own stadium starting Friday, a room that can accommodate more than 2,000 fans: a “historic” event for French and European esports.

The video game “League of Legends” will inaugurate this grand premiere on Friday evening with a quarter-final of the Coupe de France. Then the next day, the "Arènes de l’Agora", a newly renovated venue located in Evry, will host the "Rocket League" for an event combining esports, entertainment and meeting with supporters.

It is a historic first that an official match is played at home

“For the first time in France and Europe, an official match of an esports team will take place in the stadium of this team. “It's a historic first for an official match to be played at home,” explains Arthur Perticoz, the club's general manager. “It's quite a leap into the unknown.”

A leap into the unknown

Today, most video game competitions in the world take place online or in studios managed by publishers or tournament organizers. But like traditional sports, esports clubs now aspire to have their own stadiums in order to benefit from their own ticketing.

The movement came from China, where several clubs have already created their own stadiums: this is the case, in particular, for four teams in the LPL, the local League of Legends championship. But this was something that had never been seen before on the Old Continent.

New source of revenue

“Historically, esports has faced two shortcomings: ticketing and media rights”, continues Arthur Perticoz. “It is essential to bring out new sources of revenue. This is therefore a very important step in the club's growth, we are taking another step forward with our own venue.”

For Karmine Corp, this is further proof of the immense popular success of this club, which was founded just four years ago. In record time, “KCorp” has experienced dazzling growth and built an incredible fanbase. A year ago, for example, the club brought together some 29,000 of its supporters at the Paris La Défense Arena, the largest concert hall in Europe, breaking attendance records for the sector.

We're going to be closely watched by game publishers around the world

In 2022, it was the Bercy Arena that was full. The club now hopes that other clubs will follow in their footsteps so that the sector as a whole can reach a new milestone. “We're going to be closely watched by game publishers around the world, and that could change the business model.” “We took the risk, we're laying the first stones and we're convinced that it's going to make waves,” Arthur Perticoz wants to believe. “Because being the first is good. Being the only ones isn't so good.”

The “KCorp” has signed a five-year lease with the "Arènes de l’Agora", owned by the Grand Paris Sud urban area, and hopes to organize up to 10 events there per year.
