In a Franco-French duel in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Lyon, Richard Gasquet was dominated on Sunday May 19, 6-4, 6-4 by Alexandre Müller, who continues his momentum from the Masters 1000 in Rome where he has just reached the round of 16.

Müller, 27 years old and 109th in the world, made the break at 4-4 in the two sets against the veteran Gasquet, 37 years old and 113th, winner of 16 titles in his career including the edition 2006 of the Lyon tournament which was played indoors at the time.

In the second round, Müller will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Mariano Navone (31st) and Russian Pavel Kotov (63rd). For his part, Gasquet will have the whole week to prepare as best as possible for Roland-Garros, which he will play at the end of next week thanks to a wild card granted by the FFT.

Müller comes out of a big tournament in Rome

The last Frenchman in the running at the Rome tournament, where he came out of qualifying, Müller notably beat three players in the top 50, including the 6th Russian world number Andrey Rublev, before losing in 8th in the final against the future finalist, the Chilean Nicolas Jarry (24th).
