Près de 10 000 coureurs sont attendus dimanche 22 septembre à Millau pour courir sur le mythique ouvrage de Norman Foster.

For the first time since its creation in 2007, the Millau Viaduct race will take place in the middle of September. A sort of warm-up before the 100 km of Millau which is looming the following weekend. On its communication channels, the Eiffage Millau Viaduct Company, which initiated the event, announces nearly 12,000 runners on the roads of Millau this Sunday, September 22. When registration closed, according to the organizers, nearly 10,000 people had bought a bib.

A new formula

A new formula has appeared for this edition of the Viaduc's 20th anniversary: ​​a 12.8 km. It simply includes the climb and crossing of the Norman Foster building and a return by shuttle from Larzac.

The first starts will take place at 9am, on the boulevard de l’Ayrolle and the two races will start together. The first runners of the 23.7 km are expected at the finish, at the Parc de la Victoire at around 10:15am while the last, around 1:30pm.

Three time barriers to respect

Time barriers are also effective on both races. On the historic event, participants have 4 hours to complete the course in its entirety. They must arrive before 11am at the entrance to the motorway service area, at the first refreshment point (km 8.3), before 11.50am at the U-turn on the Viaduct (km 12.8) and before 12.15pm at the motorway exit (km 15.7).”Riders who do not cross them are taken back to Millau by shuttle,” warns the organization. On the short race, riders must pass the first refreshment point before 11am and must arrive at the end of the Viaduct before 12pm.

Streets in Millau closed by decree

Several roads will be closed today, by municipal decree:
