Rocket fire on Turkish border from Syria, at least 2 dead, 6 injured

Rocket fire from Syrian territory targeted the Turkish border town of Karkamis on Monday, killing two and wounding six according to an initial report, the governor of Gaziantep province (southeast) announced . 

“Five mortars/rockets were fired (…) towards the center of Karkamis. Two of our compatriots have died. Six of our citizens were injured, two of them seriously,” Governor Davut Gül said on Twitter.

Images released by Turkish media, including the official Anadolu news agency, show the broken windows of a school, as well as a burning truck. 

According to Anadolu, the rockets hit a high school and two houses, as well as a truck near the border post which connects Karkamis to the Syrian town of Jarablus.

Rocket fire from Syria had already reached a Turkish border post on Sunday, injuring at least eight, two soldiers and six Turkish policemen.

Turkey carried out air raids in northern Iraq and Syria on Sunday that killed around 30 people in several areas under the control of Syrian Kurdish forces and the PKK, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, accused by Ankara for having ordered the attack which killed six people and injured 80 on November 13 in Istanbul.
