Romain Dumas moves on from the Dakar to the 24 Hours of Daytona

Au lendemain de deux semaines d’un éprouvant Dakar, Romain Dumas aurait mérité de souffler un peu, mais l’homme a un penchant pour les efforts à répétition.

Having barely reached Saudi Arabia, the native of Alès immediately headed for the United States, and more precisely for Florida where the famous Daytona circuit thrives. This Saturday he will start the « 24 Heures », a classic of world endurance which has always been presented as the American counterpart of the double tour of ;Manceau clock.

Forgotten the Toyota Hilux of the sands, for its big return to Daytona Romain Dumas takes this time at the controls of a latest generation prototype, a Porsche 963 developed by the Germanic manufacturer to seek victory in such races.

A crew capable of maintaining serious podium ambitions

Under the control of the private team Proton Compétition, also based across the Rhine, our insatiable Gardois will share the wheel with the Swiss Neel Jani, winner with him of the 24 hours of Le Mans in 2016, the Italian Gianmaria Bruni and the Belgian Alessio Picariello . Enough to build a crew capable of maintaining serious podium ambitions, if not better, by combining speed and experience.

In the battle at the top which is coming, Romain Dumas and his teammate will have to confront the nine other crews equipped with comparable mounts, the majority of them entered by the manufacturers Cadillac, Acura, Porsche and BMW. Opponents that he could then find in other places, since a full-time return of the Alésien to the American endurance championship (Imsa), which he won around fifteen years ago, is now being considered.

The TDS Racing team, based in the Montpellier suburbs, is starting a new campaign in this championship with its Oreca prototype.
