Grâce à leur succès sur le fil face aux Springboks le week-end dernier, les Pumas se sont offert une finale lors de la dernière journée.
Argentina took advantage of a final missed penalty to prevent South Africa from winning the Rugby Championship (29-28) at home on Saturday and offer themselves a final for the title against these same Springboks, at the end of the Southern Hemisphere Championship on September 28. Led quickly 17-0 by the leaders of the competition, unbeaten before this match of the fifth and penultimate day, the Pumas managed a cannon comeback by scoring four tries in 20 minutes to end the first period in the lead (26-22).
The Pumas, currently second (14 points) thus offer themselves a final against the world champions on September 28. They will be able to beat their opponents of the day (19 points) in the event of a new victory, this time in South Africa, with the offensive bonus and without leaving any points to the Springboks.
Record equaled for Etzebeth
The clash was also marked by the 127th selection of second row Eben Etzebeth (32 years old) with South Africa, equaling the record of retired Victor Matfield, who officiated in the same position. A record that he will surpass if he plays on September 28th in the rematch against the Argentinians, which could be completed with a title.
This would then be only the second Rugby Championship trophy for the world champions in 12 participations (since 2012 and the arrival of Argentina in the competition, with a non-participation in 2020).
To be continued Saturday at 5pm on Canal + Sport.
