The race imagined by Kito de Pavant will leave Port-Camargue on September 29 for an arrival in Morocco on October 4 for the Class40 and Ocean Fifty.
This time, we are in the concrete because everything has been finalized by Kito de Pavant and his teams who are now only waiting for the registrations of the skippers for the Med Max Occitanie Saïdia Resorts.< br /> The sailor based in Port-Camargue (Gard) will this time be on the side of the organizers for this race between Port-Camargue and Morocco which will leave on September 29 for a week of racing and an arrival scheduled for October 4. "It will be at Saïdia Resorts since we officially signed with them", underlines the record holder for participations in the Transat Jacques-Vabre.
All Ocean Fifty and around fifteen Class40
Who also had the assurance of having "the entire Ocean Fifty fleet and at least fifteen Class40s " ;. It will therefore be around thirty boats which will cross the Mediterranean with two different routes of approximately 1,080 miles for the 12.19 meter long monohulls and 1,500 miles for the multihulls 15.24 meters.
The objective is for the two classes to arrive together on the northeast coast of Morocco. Before arrival, the crews will have passed through mythical places in the Big Blue: the spectacular mouths of Bonifacio, the mythical Aeolian Islands, the heavenly Balearic archipelago or even the charming Zaffarine Islands.
Animations at departure and arrival
Basically, the organizers had even planned to go further with the Greek islands and Malta. "The initial routes were reduced at the request of the skippers for various reasons", specifies Kito de Pavant.
That doesn't stop him from planning "a nice show for the runners and the public". Because in addition to the race itself, there is planned a beautiful departure village in Port-Camargue with boats at the dock from September 21. It will be animated with Ocean Fifty who will do InShore (regattas, editor's note) before departure, this will be very visual. There will also be a prologue."
An incredible welcome in Morocco
There will also be a postlogue at Saïdia Resorts with guests on board the boats and the prize giving ceremony. "I think the skippers will be surprised at the& ;rsquo;welcome which will be reserved for them in Morocco, in a country which does not yet know ocean racing. They will discover all the qualities of a people and a country which have many things to offer. It's going to be a great party."
Kito de Pavant, through his experience of deckchairs and other races for more than forty years, has experienced many things. "We try to take the best of each, add new ideas from elsewhere, and do something of our own. It’s a strong bet, but we like things that aren’t easy."
With one idea in mind, that of perpetuating the race over time and that it survives this first edition.
