Saint-Castor Cathedral is packed for the traditional Provençal mass

A very large crowd for this traditional feria event.

At 10:30 a.m., the time when the still almost deserted streets of the city center slowly emerge from a long sleepless night, the cathedral is already filled with more than 500 faithful for the traditional Provençal mass of Pentecost, which is part of the feria tradition, with the Sevillian mass on Monday.

"A new Pentecost in our lives"

Opened by farandoleurs railway workers to the sound of fifes and drums and the Consuls of Nîmes, animated by the Farigoule choir, this mass was celebrated by the priest of the diocese Nicolas Germain and the rsquo ;bishop Nicolas Brouwet. A Pentecost mass which brought together many elected officials including Jean-Paul Fournier the mayor and Franck Proust, the president of Nîmes métropole, faithful but also lovers of tradition.

Monsignor Brouwet's sermon, according to the Gospel of Saint John, insisted on agapé (unconditional love which comes from God in Greek)  : "What measures our faith is not great impulses, knowledge but this love… which can be a word of gentleness or a gesture of humility in our daily life." After mass, a friendly aperitif was served on Place Abbé-Pierre.
