Saint-Louis Festival in Sète: young people ready to take over on the boats

On monte peu à peu en puissance dans cette 280e Saint-Louis. MIDI LIBRE – Hélène Amiraux

Four categories will follow one another, from lightweights to heavyweights, this Friday, August 23 from 2 p.m. in the Cadre Royal. With emotions to manage!

The “chariots” are in charge of opening the ball, this Friday will be the turn of the young jousters to enter the dance of this 280th Saint-Louis. The Cadre Royal will indeed welcome the youth of Sète who have evolved all season on boats.

The stands will be full, and so will the hearts. Between the pride of fighting in such a nautical arena and the apprehension linked to the event, the less experienced will not only have their posture to manage from the top of the tintaine… This will be the case in particular for the Légers, some of whom will be competing in their first Saint-Louis. A category in which two favorites stand out, namely Harry D’Elia and Jules Buonomo, both from the Navy Jousting School. Lenny Michelot (EJMS) and Gennaro Joubert (LAS) will however have their say…

Tough competition

In Middleweight (pupils), the top two in the League rankings, Fabio Gras (EJMS) and Giovanny Ragioneri (LAS), will be the favourites. Having also won at least one tournament this season, Gabriel Candela, Andy Chazal and Taylor Liguori, all three from EJMS, will be serious outsiders.

In the Middleweight(minimes), the competition is expected to be particularly tough between Louka Vidal (EJMS), Baptiste Draguis (LAS), Lenny Boher (EJMS) and Kélian Joubert (LAS). It is not easy to make a prediction.

Finally, three jousters will be particularly expected in Heavyweights (cadets). Livio Gomes (EJMS) continues to dominate the circuit, but Giani Noguet (LAS) is holding his own, while Matthéo Jalicoux (EJMS) has everything he needs to win as well.

It is therefore time for all these young jousters to get on the floor and continue to honor the jousts, as they have done all season. «  We have a very good level in all categories », confirms Fabien Chazal, instructor at the EJMS. «  And above all, there is a very good state of mind among the kids. No matter what society they are in, they are all friends.  » A great example, from a very young age.
