However, the results still do not rule out the theory of the famous physicist, but they assume that the initial black hole must be really tiny to explain the existence of dark matter.
In the 1970’s, Stephen Hawking and his colleagues suggested that the Big Bang probably created a huge number of relatively small black holes, each the size of a proton. These tiny ancient black holes are extremely hard to see, but they must have a huge gravitational impact on other objects: a known property of dark matter. Finally, this theory turned out to check — but only on the primary black holes of comparable mass to the Moon.
As technologies improve, scientists have been able to do more and more clear pictures of outer space. Digital camera Hyper Suprime-Cam image of the entire Andromeda galaxy in one shot. Masahiro Takada and his team from Physico-mathematical Institute in Kavli (Japan) used this camera for the search of the primary black holes.
Black holes do not emit light, although supermassive black holes like the one that is in the heart of the galaxy Messier 87, surrounded with bright discs of hot matter. However, the primary black holes billions of times smaller and have no visible luminous matter surrounding them. Instead, search for small black holes means finding the places where their powerful gravitational field distorts the light from other stars and galaxies — this phenomenon is called microlensing.
Telescopes detect microlensing from a black hole, doing a lot of different shots of the star over time. A black hole passing in front of the star and distorts its light, causing her at times to Shine a much brighter flash, and the smaller the black hole, the faster is the flash.

“If an object that produces a lens that has, say, one solar mass, the time scale of the flash is a few months or a year. But the primary black holes, they are looking for, have a much smaller mass, roughly comparable to the moon — and this means that flares of stars from such microlensing are much shorter,” explains Takada.
According to Takada, the camera HSC is unique, as it allowed them to take pictures of all the stars in the Andromeda galaxy at once, with a stunningly quick for astronomers intervals of exposure each interval was 2 minutes. He and his team has made about 200 pictures of our nearest galaxy over 7 hours of clear nights, and found only one microlensing event. According to Takada if primary black holes account for a large proportion of dark matter, they had to see about 1000 microlensing signals.

“This eliminates the primary black holes, as the pioneers of the dark matter in the mass range where previous measurements were not so accurate and comprehensive. This is a very good result,” commented Simeon bird, a physicist studying black holes at the University of California.
Isn’t the theory of Hawking finally declared insolvent? This is not so, according to Byrd and Takada, who say that the primary black holes of a certain mass range can still exist.

“There is a suitable range of primary black holes with extremely small masses, like tiny asteroids. They can explain 1 to 10% of all dark matter. But, unfortunately, HSC cannot detect so tiny black holes because of flare stars from them too short, so we need to think of another way to do it,” says bird.
However, after processing the received data has been detected a single flash. Although this was only a preliminary result, it can be incredibly important: this is the first detection of primordial black holes, which can become a revolutionary review of a work of Hawking.
