An airport in Japan was disrupted for 2 hours on Saturday, August 17, 2024, after a pair of scissors went missing from a store.
A disappearance like no other. On Saturday, August 17, New Chitose Airport (CTS), which serves the Sapporo region on the island of Hokkaido in Japan, was severely disrupted after a pair of scissors went missing from a store located in the departure waiting area.
This store, located after the domestic flight security checkpoint, reported that it could no longer find the scissors. Faced with this situation, the airport authorities decided to take drastic measures to find the lost object for fear that it could be used as a weapon on board.< /p>
A new check
All passengers who had already passed the security check have been forced to turn around to carry out a new check. This second check, long and tedious, caused serious inconvenience. According to the site One Mile At A Time, all passengers had to report to the checkpoint at the same time, which slowed down operations considerably.
As a result, 36 flights were cancelled and 201 others were delayed, according to the BBC Airport operations were suspended for two hours before resuming, with the scissors still missing. It was only the next day that they were located in the same store from which they had disappeared, suggesting that they had likely been used by staff.
Mixed reactions
On social media, reactions were mixed. Some praised the airport for its security precautions, while others expressed frustration at the inconvenience. “I feel like crying because my flight was canceled because someone misplaced a pair of scissors,”, wrote one traveler on X.
