Scooter accident in Montpellier: attempted homicide reclassified as involuntary violence, suspect sought

A pedestrian was seriously injured during the night of Saturday to Sunday June 9 near rue Pitot, in Montpellier. He was hit violently by a scooter rider, riding on the sidewalk, who had just been the subject of a comment from another passer-by.

We know a little more about the scooter accident which occurred during the night of Saturday to Sunday, June 9, around 12 a.m.  45, rue Pitot  in Montpellier, and as a result of which a pedestrian was seriously injured.

The latter was also taken care of by the Hérault firefighters and transported, with a vital prognosis, to the Lapeyronie hospital center where he was able to be saved.

More accidental than intentional

According to our information, the victim left the hospital before the medical examiner was able to examine him. She has still not been heard by the police.

In view of slightly more in-depth investigations, it ultimately appears that the collision was more accidental than intentional, contrary to what was initially relayed. Moreover, the attempted murder was reclassified as involuntary violence.

He fled

According to a witness, a scooter rider, who was riding on the sidewalk, was indeed the subject of a comment from a pedestrian. But it was when he turned around to look at him that he violently, but unintentionally, hit people who were coming in front of him, before running away.

He is also actively sought by investigators. The young man, of Afghan origin and aged 21, who was arrested just after the events, was for his part exonerated and released.

Video surveillance

The exploitation of the video surveillance cameras of the city's urban supervision center should make it possible to establish with certainty the unfolding of the facts.
