The mayor of Saint-Affrique announced during the greeting ceremony that the women's rugby sevens team would be visiting to prepare for the Paris 2024 Games.
It was in front of a large black hanging, on which the three colors of the Republic were projected, that Sébastien David, mayor and president of the community of communes, spoke on Friday evening, in the hall holidays, his speech on the occasion of the vows ceremony. Surrounded by the municipal council and the sub-prefect of Millau, the elected official spoke for almost half an hour to some 300 guests present.
A Brazilian team to prepare Paris 2024
The Saint-Affricains present in the room had the scoop on the announcement of the arrival of the Brazilian women's rugby sevens team in their city, to prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. " ;We have often talked about the Terre de jeux 2024 label for the territory of our community of municipalities, declared Sébastien David. It may eventually make it possible to accommodate teams during preparation courses. I am pleased to officially announce that Saint-Affrique will host the Brazilian women's rugby sevens team for a preparation course for the Olympic Games. This in close collaboration with the Department's sports department, which I salute and whom I thank for his support and financial assistance."
"Dynamizing our territory"
He sent a "personal message to each of the local community agents and associated structures for their daily commitment to serving the population".
Sébastien David continued: "Since the start of our mandate with our municipal team and our intercommunal team, we have only one ambition: that of revitalizing our territory in partnership with the social-economic and associative actors, to make it attractive but also to ensure and assume a development policy."
Lots of work to come
The mayor then listed the work currently being carried out. In place of the old U Express, two multipurpose rooms are being built. The development of the church tower began in November "to make it a more developed hypercenter". The New Bridge will be redone. The Bourguet footbridge will provide a smooth connection from Vabres-l’Abbaye to the city center. The new space in the cloister, with temporary parking, will become a waterproof and high-quality parking space, with an island of freshness around the Maxillou stream, a green space and games for children.
800 renovated lighting poles
At the Borel-Gare space, a housing building is being built, with a multidisciplinary health center, a new tax center. The latter will bring together the treasuries of South Aveyron, businesses and dentists. "This will lead us to work on the future destination of the current premises of the health center and the treasury", specified the mayor.
In planning, the new bus station « will allow a complete reconfiguration of this space and Place Leclerc. » On an environmental level, 800 of the 1,200 public lighting poles have evolved towards less energy-consuming LED technology. In green spaces, the plantations put in place require less water. 700 trees and honey plants were planted out of the 1,000 promised. Future photovoltaic shade structures are planned at the Bourguet stadium and almost all public buildings are equipped with photovoltaic roofs. The energy renovation of the 12 Star gymnasium is planned for 2024.
An important place for renewable energies
The Crassous photovoltaic park will allow collective self-consumption. Without forgetting the Voltaire block with "a clever mix of public space, public services and housing, with the arrival of the new Departmental Solidarity House" and an investment from the Department of 4 million euros. The construction of the new gendarmerie barracks near the Saint-Vincent district has also been decided. The building permit should be submitted before May. The new rescue center will be located in Les Cazes.
Concerning roads, the annual budget has increased to 200,000 €. "This year, the City's investment budget is 4.8M€ when it was, in 2019, an election year, 1.3 M€", said the mayor. As for commerce, "it is doing well in the city center".
