The Ottawa Senators acquired Arizona Coyotes center Derek Stepan for a 2021 second-round pick.
The transaction was announced by both teams late Saturday.
The second-round pick involved in the exchange had previously been acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in February 2019.
In his third season in the Coyotes uniform, Stepan had 10 goals and 28 points in 70 games. He totaled 39 goals and 119 points in 224 games for the Arizona Troop.
“On behalf of the entire Coyotes organization, I want to thank Derek for everything he’s done over the past three seasons,” said team general manager Bill Armstrong. Derek is a professional and a man of great class. We wish him and his family all the best for the future. ”
The 30-year-old Stepan was selected in the second round of the 2008 Draft by the New York Rangers. In 739 games in the NHL, he had 167 goals and 479 points. Stepan added 54 points, including 20 goals, in 106 playoff games.
“The acquisition of Derek gives us important stability at center for the next season,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. He plays a full style and he has shown his efficiency during special teams. His addition to our roster will also inject leadership into our group of players. ”
