In an interview with People after the birth of her daughter, Serena Williams explained that she spent the next six weeks in bed as she tried to adjust to her role as a new mother. “All my life I've physically pushed my body to its limits,” she shared. And that's the only time I couldn't control anything. I couldn't push my body. My body pushed to its maximum. It was so hard.”
And to add: “Not everything will be perfect, not everything will be great. You can't just go anywhere and expect, “Oh, I'm going to be perfect at everything. I'm going to win everything. I'm going to do everything.” It's not how many times you fall that counts, it's how many times you get up. It is the most important. And it's really good to keep your mindset like that. And that's what I've always said, really, a champion isn't defined by how many wins they have, but how well they recover when they go down.”
