The career of Serge Denoncourt in five souvenir photos

New blood

Serge Denoncourt as he staged In Extremis at the Théâtre de Quat-sous , in 1987. A graduate in theater at Cégep Lionel-Groulx in Sainte-Thérèse four years earlier, he was only 25 years old. It was the first time that an institutional theater called on such a young director for such a play which deals with attempted rape.

Young founder and director

In 1989, Serge Denoncourt, who five years earlier had co-founded the theater company Opsis (at the age of 22), was its artistic director. He then put on the play Possibilities, directing six actors who played 38 roles on stage.

“You shouldn't expect anything when you go to see this play”, he said with the frankness that we know him.

Honored at the Soirée des Masques in 1994, the first awards gala in the history of theater in Quebec. This gala was canceled in 2008. Serge Denoncourt has so far signed some 110 stagings, often at the rate of four or five per year! He has been awarded several times.

Le beau Serge, while he was re-editing Il Campiello by Goldoni in 2010, a play that had been a big success from his Opsis theatre, 20  he then shared the concerns of the Venetian playwright. It was 13 years ago.
