Failing to be able to present the event in its usual form because of the pandemic of COVID-19, the programmers of the Festival international de jazz de Montréal (FIJM) have put together a special edition all-digital and free will in the course of the next four days several exclusive concerts. Here are seven appointments not to be missed :

Jordan Officer

Jordan Officer

A regular of the jazz Festival, the montreal guitarist Jordan Officer will provide this unique concert recorded at The Astral, which has been transformed in a studio tv for this virtual edition of the FIJM. Officer will benefit definitely from this opportunity in order to introduce his fans to songs from his next three albums which will be published in July.

A year after having delivered a memorable show in front of a tide of spectators at the Place des Festivals at the opening of the FIJM in the past year, the popular quebec singer Charlotte Cardin offers a new gift to his fans with this intimate concert that was also recorded without an audience in the hall of the Astral.

As always, the Montreal jazz Festival to wide-ranging, and not limited to jazz. Fans of neo-classical music will be well served with this concert pianist at montreal’s Jean-Michel Blais, who has also been filmed specially for the occasion. Jean-Michel Blais, who was recently signed to the music in the film Matthias and Maxime Xavier Dolan, offers a quiet music and snuggle which is good for the soul.

Dominique Fils-Aimé

Revealed at the show The Voice in 2015, Dominique Fils-Aimé was a resounding critical success last year with his second album, Stay Tuned, winner of a Félix award for jazz album of the year at the ADISQ Gala. The singer in montreal that draws its inspiration from the icons of the soul music of the 1940s to the 1960s (from Billie Holiday to Nina Simone) will deliver his blend of blues and jazz in an intimate concert recorded at The Astral.

Of historic concerts

Oliver Jones

In addition to providing festival-goers a large number of exclusive concerts featuring artists from quebec, the programmers of the jazz Festival have picked through their archives to find recordings of concerts that have marked the 40-year history of the event. The series ‘treasures of the festival will, therefore, propose every evening a historical pageant that was filmed for television in the year of its presentation. The concert of Oscar Peterson and Oliver Jones in 2004, will open the show tonight, followed by those of Jaco Pastorius (1982) tomorrow, Miles Davis (1985) Monday and Sarah Vaughan (1983) on Tuesday.
