Shazam : 4 questions that were asked during the film

It is this Wednesday, April 3, that Shazam finally comes out at the cinema. A new movie DC Comics worn by Zachary Levi and Mark Strong, very awaited by the public, which responds fully to the expectations placed in him. Purebreak you book its critical 4 important questions.

Is this the superhero movie the funniest of the genre ?

We’ll keep it simple : Shazam is a film of super-hero unique, like no other. For the first time, one has the feeling of attending a comedy about the super-hero and not a superhero movie with comedy. A bias for creative surprising ? Yes, but terribly effective. Because this way, the humour is perfectly in its place in the history, is accurately controlled and measured. Unlike the Marvel movies and recent movies DC, no joke seems forced. On the contrary, the universe humorous fits perfectly in the world of super-heroic by its characters and its plot. A success.

Is it that Sivana is one of the best villains ?

It was a long time that we had not vibrated in the face of a villain in a superhero movie. So be careful, Sivana is not the most badass, the most powerful, the most striking super-villains. But he brings something that we had forgotten for a moment : a humanity. Where the films of that genre spend their time providing us fighting against opponents in CGI, often of Gods or alien creatures always more powerful than the others, one here has the right to a man – who has powers, become evil without realising it. Mark Strong, his interpreter, has confided in an interview : “We see the characters are very young, we see the choices they make at this young age and we see the effects it then has on them. (…) Everything is a matter of choice. Sivana has spent his entire life wanting to go back in the cave because the sorcerer had told him that he didn’t deserve to be a super-hero, and when he comes back he has the proof that he does not deserve it.” And this one offers a very interesting vision. It is always more exciting to follow a character broken a villain who appears from the outset as indestructible.

Is what a superhero movie should be scary ?

Shazam is a real comedy, but it also enjoys some sequences in the dark, either, thanks to the presence of the terrible Seven Deadly Enemies – frightening creatures that control Sivana, an atmosphere sometimes unhealthy and staging very effective. A surprise ? Not really when we know that it is David F. Sandberg, who has directed the film. That ? The daddy of horror films “In the black” and Annabelle 2″. A relevant choice ? Quite. When we asked him what he had brought these movies on Shazam, the developer has told us in interview : “I think that it is this sense of real danger for the characters. To put in place the villains who are really nasty and dangerous. This way, when they threaten the hero you truly believe.

And it is clearly effective. For a film that wants to be funny, this feeling brings us back to the ever-present danger around and reminds us that Shazam is also a superhero movie. This allows a better balance in the story, crédibilisant and the universe. And yes, horror has its place in a movie super-heroic. After all, the experiences of the characters are not normal.

The costume of Shazam is it “too much” ?

Finally, there is a question that we came up repeatedly during the film : what is the costume of Shazam is successful or is it that it is a big fail ? If Zachary Levi is amazing in this role and seems to be made for him, this costume is often a task on the screen and even then some to serve his / her performance. Attention, it is never ridiculous but it is never epic not more, to the point that it is almost frustrated. Yet, as we said to Mark Strong interview, it is a mistake to think about it like this : “The costume of Shazam, it is very retro, it is very exaggerated. And that’s because it comes from the imagination of a teenager of 14 years who thinks that it is to it that looks like a super-hero“. A very interesting point of view which gives us a different perspective on it. And just for that, you want to watch the movie again.
