UPGRADE DAY

An Ohio woman who told police she intentionally drowned her 'perfect granny' in the kitchen sink so the old lady could 'rest' has pleaded guilty of murder, according to several media.

Heidi Matheny, 35, initially pleaded not guilty to the murder charge she was the target of last year, but she finally pleaded guilty on Friday.

The murder occurred on November 15, 2022 According to WKBN-TV, the day before the murder, Heidi told investigators that doctors had recommended she put her grandmother in a nursing home, but she couldn't afford the cost.

The following day, after eating ice cream with the victim, Alice Matheny, 93, Heidi told police that she had slipped behind her grandmother while she was washing up, and that 'she had held her head in the kitchen sink 'until the bubbles stopped'.

Citing police reports, WXIX-TV reports that Heidi told police that she then dragged Alice to the couch, where she started to “blow bubbles again, so she put her in the tub until she stopped”.

Heidi said holding her grandmother underwater for 15 minutes and leaving her dead body in the tub.

“I just lost my mind,” she explained. “She didn't do anything. She's a perfect granny.”

Heidi told detectives that her grandmother suffered from daily panic attacks. She wished her grandmother “to be at peace.”

After the murder, Heidi said she escaped through a window because she “didn't want the neighbors to see her. see,” reports WXIX-TV.

According to the Journal-News, Heidi surrendered two hours later.
