SHERBROOKE | City of Sherbrooke began on Monday, the dismantling of the Place Nikitotek and the building which housed the Bingo Abenakis in view of the construction of the new pont des Grandes-Fourches.
Piece by piece, the Place Nikitotek – a theatre stage covered outdoor roof – will be completely dismantled, and stored until it can be sold. The installation is currently being displayed on the Internet and the auction is open. The City expects to sell this infrastructure to be approximately $3 million.
The demolition of the hall which housed the Bingo Abenaki is also begins this week. The Consolidation of bingos in the region of Sherbrooke bought the other room, the Living room of the Bingo, to be able to continue its activities. The building must be renovated before being able to accommodate players.
The organization is currently in discussions with the City of Sherbrooke, in order to receive financial assistance.
The site of the demolition and dismantling should last four weeks. Once facilities are razed, the site will be decontaminated.
The construction of the new bridge will begin in 2021. The project of $ 41 million is expected to be completed in 2022.
