Sixty evacuees due to Gatineau fire

About 60 people were evacuated from a burning apartment building in the Gatineau sector on the night of Sunday to Monday.
The building of thirty housing units is located at 220 Morency Street.
Gatineau firefighters were called around 3am. The situation was declared under control shortly before 9am.
No one was hurt. More than eight individuals have been cared for by the Red Cross and more than 20 have to be relocated.

The fire spread to the roof. In addition to the flames, smoke and water caused damage to the house where the fire started, but also to neighboring units.

The buildings adjacent to Morency Street have been evacuated as a preventive measure.
