As part of Breast Cancer Screening Awareness Month, the City of Millau and associations are mobilizing.
October means pink. Breast Cancer Screening Awareness Month continues to be talked about in the city of gloves. Starting with the commitment of the City of Millau which, like every year, is redecorating the Mandarous roundabout.
The City's gardeners were at work on Wednesday afternoon to adapt the decoration of the center's main square accordingly. Pink ribbons on a white arch, pink shavings and pink flowers. Everything is there to continue to make this month of October a symbol of the fight against breast cancer.
A solidarity challenge: 500 kilometers in five hours
And in Millau, there are many supporters of the cause. Like Anne-Laure Brion, a tattoo artist from Millau who will be in Bordeaux, at the Rose Tattoo, on October 5 to enhance the scars of a woman who has undergone breast surgery.
In another genre, in the city of gloves, a land of sport, the people of Millau know how to use their legs for a good cause. In the same pink hues, the Gazelles à vos Trousses are organizing a sports solidarity challenge on Saturday, October 5. The goal ? "To travel 500 kilometers together in just five hours, on a five-kilometer loop", sums up the association.
A 1,000 km record to beat
The Gazelles' commitment is no longer to be proven with such a challenge which is not their first attempt. In 2023, they had already supported the cause in the same way. “We will try to mobilize as many Gazelles as possible for this event, the presidents indicated in our columns at the start of the school year. We are renewing the solidarity operation for Pink October, we did 1,000 km, we are going to propose to the people of Millau to beat the record."
Open to all, the course will start at Place de la Capelle. Every hour, from 2pm to 6pm, a new start will be launched with the possibility of participating in several waves.
To motivate the troops to get into the starting blocks, the Gazelles will hand out “a symbolic ribbon”for each loop completed”. The final objective of this afternoon ? Financially support the cause by committing to donating 500 € to the League against cancer.
Later in the month, the Belle de Millau will also take place in partnership with the League against cancer. The chalet is open on Place de la Capelle to raise funds. The start of the solidarity walk will be given on Sunday, October 20.
