In twelve municipalities, rabbits proliferate

#HERAULT –They are more and more numerous… Wild rabbits are gaining ground in the east of Montpellier. "In 2023, we took 12,000 and it’s as if we had done nothing! It's going to be the same this year, at least. It’s catastrophic,” says Bernard Ganibenq, president of the Mauguio hunting company. Local residents are concerned about the number of burrows dug and arborists are noticing the erosion of their plots. The damage amounts to thousands of euros in the twelve affected municipalities, classified in red by the state. There is protection: a fence with a system of doors and fine mesh fencing. Its cost is not negligible: 40,000 euros to fence 60 hectares.

#OCCITANIE – This is the percentage of male executives in Occitanie. This is one of the lessons from the latest study conducted by Apec on executives in the region. Of the approximately 290,000 it has, a large majority (65%) are men. Their median age is 44 years, in line with the national average, and more than half (54%) hold a baccalaureate +5 level diploma or higher. Unsurprisingly, they hold permanent jobs in 95% of cases and are mainly concentrated in Toulouse and Montpellier.

Aude attacks: the trial begins this Monday, January 22

#JUSTICE –  Terrible day, March 23, 2018, in Carcassonne and Trèbes (Aude). It was a little after 9 a.m. when Radouane Lakdim, an S offender, shot dead two men in a car in a parking lot in Carcassonne. Aboard the victims' car, the jihadist then crosses the city and shoots at riot police who were jogging. One of the police officers is seriously injured. Around 10:30 a.m., the terrorist burst into the Super U in Trèbes, killed an employee and a customer, before taking a checkout hostess hostage. Arnaud Beltrame, one of the first gendarmes to intervene, offers the attacker to take the place of the hostage. He begins a negotiation which ends short. Before being shot dead by the GIGN, Radouane Lakdim stabbed the gendarmerie colonel to death. It is 2:30 p.m. This Monday, seven people, including the ex-girlfriend of the assassin, appear before the special Paris Assize Court. Five of the accused will answer for criminal conspiracy in connection with a terrorist enterprise. The trial is expected to last more than a month.

A grave falls on him

#GERS –A lady went to the small cemetery of Montaut-les-Créneaux, in the Gers, to put flowers on the grave of a loved one on Saturday afternoon. While she was meditating, a funerary monument fell on her. As it fell, the tombstone crushed on the victim's legs, preventing him from freeing himself. She was nevertheless able to call for help using her cell phone. Once notified, they intervened quickly. Firefighters dispatched to the scene were able to free her, before transporting her to Auch hospital. The woman was slightly injured. A security perimeter has been set up in the cemetery to avoid another incident.

The Tarn ZAD dislodged

#AUTOROUTE A 69 – The authorities carried out, Saturday, January 20, "without incident" a new evacuation of the ZAD installed in Saïx (Tarn) by opponents of the A69 motorway project between Toulouse and Castres, according to the prefecture. Eight people were arrested during the intervention. The groups of opponents on site denounced a "provocation" public authorities and announced their intention to "rebuild". Remember that the ZAD had already been evacuated on October 22, 2023. The president of the Tarn Department, Christophe Ramond, welcomed “very good news”.
