Four dinosaurs unearthed: excavations resume
#HÉRAULT The remains of two titanosaurs and two rhabdodons, some in very good condition, dormant for 72 million years in the ground, were unearthed on a discreet site in Montouliers by paleontologists from the Archaeological and Paleontological Cultural Association (Acap) of Cruzy.
A team of volunteer paleontologists arrived on site on Saturday for a new excavation campaign scheduled to run until October 13. Their goal: to collect scientific information and possibly discover new remains. They will share the results of their work with the public between October 5 and 10.
Quiet night at the prison
#NÎMES The night was quiet at the remand center between Saturday and Sunday, after the movement of prisoners which, on Saturday afternoon, mobilized the Regional Intervention Teams (Eris) and security teams from Toulouse and Marseille. Between 3:30 p.m. and beyond 7 p.m., more than a hundred prisoners refused to return to their cells, protesting against prison overcrowding.
Ufap Unsa justice Nîmes asks local management “to urgently call in a pest control company” and to the interregional management of Toulouse as well as to the management of the prison administration, to "kindly decongest our establishment quickly and massively".
Today's figure: 397
#MONTPELLIER The COM, the motorway link between the A750 and the A709 from Juvignac to Saint-Jean-de-Védas, has obtained the administrative green light, but there remains contested.
Local residents are particularly mobilized against the acquisition of land. Two thirds of these areas belong to public actors, while 397 private owners are concerned. According to the project owner, Vinci, 134 files will have to be submitted to the expropriation judge.
Professor dismissed
#MONTPELLIER The Council of State has ruled in the so-called law school commando case. In a decision published on Friday, March 27, the country's highest administrative court decided to dismiss Jean-Luc Coronel de Boissezon, the professor of legal history accused of participating in the commando that violently expelled students in March 2018 protesting against the law "student orientation and success". Today, Jean-Luc Coronel de Boissezon is a member of the national council of the far-right party Reconquête.
The wandering goats return to the fold
#CORBIÈRESThe prefect of Aude has repealed his decree of September 2, which until this Monday authorized the slaughter of straying animals in several Corbières municipalities and which targeted goats that had returned to the wild.
The text authorized the shooting of goats and bucks that wander on the RD 611A and constituted a further milestone in a long history that began in 2016. A breeder had then set up with an original herd of 80 heads, which grew to the point of exceeding 1,000 units and becoming unmanageable.
Winegrowers complained of damage to their vines costing tens of thousands of euros. Not to mention the risk to vehicles on the winding departmental road. Finally, the breeder reported having “recovered the stray goats”, a statement confirmed by a report from the Departmental Directorate of Territories and the Sea (DDTM). Everything was therefore in place for the prefecture to change its tune. To be continued?
