This weekend of July 5, 2024 marks the start of the school holidays for many French people. Bison Futé anticipates very heavy traffic on French roads this first weekend of July, particularly on Saturdays.

This first weekend in July announces the summer holidays in France. Significant travel is therefore to be expected on all of the country's main routes, mainly in the direction of departures. These will mainly be French motorists taking their vacations from the start of summer to take advantage of lower attendance, but also foreign tourists coming from neighboring countries, reports Bison Futé.

Traffic will be heavy on most major routes towards the North-West, the South, as well as from the Ile-de-France region, particularly on Friday and Saturday . Sunday will be marked by significant traffic on the roads crossing the Grand-Ouest, the North and the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region.

A Saturday in the red

On Saturday July 6, in the direction of departures, traffic will be very difficult throughout the territory. The most significant difficulties will be encountered on the axes serving the Western (A11, A13), Southern (A7, A9, A10) and Alps (A43) regions. In addition, access to Italy via the Mont-Blanc tunnel will be very difficult throughout the day. The motorways serving the North-East (A2, A25, A3) and Brittany (N165) will also be heavily used.

Departing from the Île-de-France, from the very beginning of the morning, traffic will be very heavy in the direction toll barriers on the A6 and A10 motorways. The first slowdowns could appear relatively early in the morning on the A10 motorway and to a lesser extent on the A6 motorway.

From mid-morning, traffic will intensify significantly and it is the main radials and ring roads which converge towards these axes which could in turn experience more or less significant traffic difficulties depending on the sector. The A13 motorway may also experience traffic difficulties from mid-morning. These difficulties could continue until mid-afternoon.

A quieter Sunday

Le Sunday July 7, large departures will make traffic conditions difficult in the Great West, the North and the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region. The A7 motorway will be particularly busy between Lyon and Orange all day. The axes serving Spain (A63) and the Massif-Central (A75) will also experience difficulties in the middle of the day.

In Île-de-France, traffic will be heavier than usual on the A6 and A10 motorways. Traffic will clearly intensify by mid-morning. As for Saturday, these are the main radials and ring roads which converge towards these axes which could, in turn, experience more or less significant traffic difficulties depending on the sectors. The A13 motorway may also experience traffic difficulties from mid-morning. These traffic difficulties will justify, as a precaution, leaving or crossing Île-de-France before 8 a.m.
