According to the consumer defense association, policyholders will suffer an unprecedented increase "of the order of 10%" in 2024, and not 8.1% as announced by the French Mutualité. And it will be even more important for some French people.

The increase in supplementary health prices should be even greater than expected this year.

According to an estimate made public Tuesday by UFC Que Choisir, policyholders will suffer an unprecedented increase "of the order of 10% " in 2024, and not 8.1% as announced by Mutualité française.

In 2023, contributions had already increased by 7.1%. But to establish its new assessment, the French Mutualité reasoned "at a constant theoretical age", without taking into account the fact that policyholders switch each year in a higher age group and price, explains the consumer defense association.

The higher increase for retirees

"Worse, this average masks much more significant developments, particularly for retirees, since we have recorded increases of 25% and even 30%, for an increase in monthly contributions reaching 60 € for a couple for example, i.e. 720 € per year !", Que Choisir alert.

"If the authorities (government and Social Security), by shifting ever more public spending to complementary funds to cover care, have a major responsibility in this increase is also the case for complementary organizations", denounces the association.

According to its data, less than 75% of supplementary contributions return to policyholders in the form of reimbursements, compared to 96% for health insurance.

At the same time, medical deductibles will double

The association denounces, in particular, management fees which vary "enormously" d&amp ;rsquo;one complementary to the other.

According to France Info, they range from "10 %" of the contributions collected for the Pro mutual BTP at "28 %" for the insurance broker and wholesaler April.

Patients will face, at the same time, the doubling of the price of medical deductibles, from the end of March.
