Suzanne Guèvremont takes charge of the National Film Board

Suzanne Guèvremont succeeds Claude Joli-Coeur as Commissioner and President of the National Film Board (NFB) of Canada.

The news has been announced Friday by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Pablo Rodriguez.

The five-year mandate of Ms. Guèvremont, who since 1999 has been director of the School of Digital Arts, Animation and Design (École NAD -UQAC), will begin next Monday.

“Bringing our stories to the world through our films is essential to showcasing the strength of our diversity, the wealth of our talent, our commitment to reconciliation, and other stories that are unique to our country. This is why the National Film Board is so important to Canada, and I am sure it will be in good hands with Ms. Guèvremont. I congratulate her on this appointment and wish her much success. I would also like to thank Claude Joli-Coeur, who has directed the NFB since 2014, for his exemplary contribution to the Canadian film industry,” declared the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Pablo Rodriguez.

Mandated by the Ministry of Higher Education of Quebec from 2018 to 2021, she founded SYNTHÈSE Pôle Image Québec, a project dedicated to the advancement of expertise and research in digital creation, we explained in a press release. , adding that she has worked in China, India, Italy and the United States.

Suzanne Guèvremont is President of the Board of Directors of Collège Notre-Dame. 

She has also just resigned from the vice-presidency of the Board of the Société de développement des entreprises culturelle (SODEC), after her appointment as head of the ONF. 

She has also served on the boards of CBC/Radio-Canada, the Bell Fund, the Association of Superior Schools of Art of Montreal (ADESAM), u Quebec Digital Innovation Consortium, the Digital Alliance, the CESAM Multimedia Consortium and the Inforoutes and Multimedia Forum.
