Taxi strike in Nîmes: towards a standoff with the municipality ?

Nîmes taxis will be on strike next Monday, February 26. Exasperated by "aberrations" and police interventions that they consider “unjustified”, they are demanding respect for their rights and access to certain strategic areas of the city.

Nîmes taxis have filed a strike notice for next Monday, February 26. This decision follows several recent incidents.

The starting point of this discontent lies in the ban on taxis parking in Allée Boissy-d'Anglas, a route which is nevertheless accessible to deliveries according to a municipal decree in force. "The town hall sent its authorities to us to carry out checks behind Nîmes station." 

A significant loss of customers

On February 10, the threat of fining a taxi in this area provoked the anger of the profession who believe that this ban is causing them to lose a significant clientele, in particular that of the & #39;hotel, travelers with the nearby train station, car rental company…

The unions, including the National Union of Taxis of Gard (UNT 30) and the National Federation of Taxi Artisans (FNAT), joined in this mobilization. Benjamin Vernier, vice-president of Nîmes taxis, explains that the aim of the strike is to demonstrate discontent following several aberrations suffered in the city of Nîmes. 60~/em>

Operation snail this Monday

A gathering is planned for Monday in front of the station before a snail operation between 7 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. on the boulevards and a blocking of certain bus lanes, where taxis would like to be able to circulate without risking be sanctioned by the authorities. Of the 46 taxis in Nîmes, he hopes that at least 25 to 30 of them will join the mobilization.
