The weight of age, surely. At each Olympics, Teddy Riner (35 years old) sees the number increase on the scale. The triple Olympic champion (twice individually, once in a team) in the heavyweights (+ 100 kg) in fact participated in the traditional weigh-in before entering the competition, he who will be on the mats this Friday, August 1st in search of a fourth title.

141 kg. These are the three numbers displayed on the scale. In 2008, in Beijing, the 2.04m colossus was at 126.8 kg, or 14.2 kg less. He was only 19 years old… and he had won the bronze medal.

In 2012, in London, he climbed to 131 kg. 137.5 kg in Rio in 2016 and 139.2 in Tokyo in 2021.

In multiple reports, Riner has often explained the fight he wages every day against his weight. He asked his partner to lock certain food drawers. Before each competition, he prepares a bag full of treats to motivate himself.

Just after Covid, a few months before the Tokyo Olympics, the Pointe-à-Pitre native recounted the moment when he went up to 166.6 kg. Which didn't stop him from winning a bronze medal in Japan.

After Paris 2024, Teddy Riner will set his sights on Los Angeles 2028. He will be 39 years old. Such a champion is never satisfied.
