Sinner becomes the first Italian world No. 1 in history. 

Janik Sinner became the first Italian world No. 1 in the history of the ATP ranking on Monday, ahead of Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, crowned Sunday at Roland-Garros. Dethroned by Sinner, the Serbian Djokovic, No. 1 since last September, was also overtaken by Alcaraz and finds himself relegated to 3rd place.

The 22-year-old Italian, who won the Australian Open in January, has a 945-point lead over the 21-year-old Spaniard and 1,165 points more than Djokovic. The 37-year-old Serbian, who is having a complicated 2024 season without any titles so far, holds the record for the number of weeks spent as world No. 1 (428).

Alcaraz in ambush

He also holds the record for the oldest No. 1 in history, while Alcaraz, who reached this rank for the first time in September 2022 at the age of 19, is the youngest to have achieved it.

Beaten in the final in Paris by Alcaraz, the German Alexander Zverev keeps the fourth place ahead of the Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. Australian Alex de Minaur returns to his career-high ranking of 9th in the world after reaching the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked 11th, has once again left the Top 10. Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, up three places, has returned to the Top 20, ranked 18th.
