Quebec's Eugenie Bouchard worked hard in her first-round match at the Madrid tennis tournament on Wednesday, earning her a 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-2 win over the 'Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska. 

Occupying the 285th place on the WTA circuit, the winner took 2 hours 20 minutes to defeat the 149th player in the world. Thus, she savored a third consecutive triumph on Madrid soil: previously, she won two qualifying clashes against the Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo and the American Elizabeth Mandlik.

“Genie” showed character after dropping the opening set. She did well on serve, placing 75.3% of her first serves and pocketing 59.0% of points played on her first serve. She conceded the break four times, but in return, she broke eight in 21 occasions.

In the next stage, Bouchard will have a significant challenge to face, since she will face the Italian Martina Trevisan, 20th on the international chessboard.
