La fin du premier tour en simple s'est déroulée, ce mercredi, sur les courts en terre battue de Grabels.
In the north of Montpellier, the day started in the best way for the French players. Emma Léné, 476th player in the world, defeated German Noma Noah Akugue, seeded number 8 and 174th in the WTA rankings, in three sets after a particularly close duel (7-6, 3- 6, 7-5). "I’ve had a lot of matches lately,” she explained. I know this player well having lost against her at Roland-Garros last year, she gives me problems with her game. I'm happy to get through it, it's my biggest victory on the circuit. Now we have to continue…"
Five French women eliminated
For her part, Carole Monnet (22 years old, 202nd) also qualified for the second round of the Hérault event by beating the American Jessie Aney (26 years old, 445th) with a score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.
The rest was less glorious since five other French players involved were eliminated. Like Séléna Janicijevic who led 5-3 in the third set before cracking and losing 7 games to 5 against the Belgian Marie Benoit. Only Alice Ramé (26 years old, 413th) stood out by beating the American Louisa Chirico (216th), 6-4, 6-3.
