Elon Musk, boss of Tesla, has assured Thursday that the manufacturer of electric vehicles arriving this year to develop a car fully autonomous, capable of moving without a driver at the wheel.
The man of affairs has on several occasions hasardé to predictions in recent years, promising first a vehicle which is completely autonomous to 2018, before finally pushing the deadline to the beginning of 2020.
“I am extremely sure that we will very quickly with the basic features of an autonomous control of level 5, which is basically the complete autonomy (…) this year,” assured Mr. Musk in a video message to the opening of the world Conference on artificial intelligence (WAIC) in Shanghai.
Autonomous vehicles are divided into five categories according to their degree of autonomy. The level 5 represents the complete autonomy with a vehicle able to move without a driver on any road.
Cars Tesla are already partially autonomous, but analysts believe that the full autonomy is fraught with legal and regulatory obstacles are considerable.
