“Thank you for the support, little brother”: when rapper Booba receives congratulations from professor Didier Raoult

Le professeur Didier Raoult a pris la défense du rappeur Booba sur X. Midi Libre

Booba a reçu les félicitations du docteur Didier Raoult. La raison ? Avoir répandu une fake news et avoir insulté un médecin.

On January 18, the rapper Booba "took the risk" of relaying on his X  account a publication drawing a parallel between vaccination against Covid-19 and Creutzfeld-Jacob disease. "Open your eyes", says the artist to his 6.3 million subscribers.& nbsp;

"He insulted me, called me a murderer, an imbecile"

In response to this tweet, doctor Jérôme Barrière, oncologist, explains to Booba that the latter shares "content that does not on no serious scientific data". He then invites him to "maintain a certain reserve", on a subject that he does not "no mastery".

Because of this response, Doctor Barrière suffered a wave of online harassment. "He insulted me, called me a murderer, a lobotomized imbecile…", confides- he told our colleagues from Parisien. In a few hours, messages from Booba quoting Jérôme Barrière multiplied. "Anonymous haters then arrived en masse", testifies the doctor, who mentions messages of hatred, threats.

Professor Raoult to the rescue of Booba

The oncologist then locks his account I don't know if, among these six million subscribers, there might not be a crazy person who could come to my office…" he reports, still  at the microphone of Parisien.

It's at this moment that Professor Raoult intervenes. "Thanks for the support, little brother", publishes the scientist, quoting Booba's tweet. He who had defended vaccination in general for a long time, now displays positions with a conspiratorial tendency.

"Obscurantism has won"

If Doctor Jérôme Barrière does not intend to file a complaint for not being "the one who feeds the beast",  he blames the State for remain silent in the face of medical misinformation. The latter also recalls that several months ago, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire had welcomed Booba's fight against the scams of influencers… and hopes the same thing for health.

Finally, if Doctor Barrière thought about leaving X to deal with the harassment he was experiencing, he finally changed his mind: "To be silent would mean that obscurantism has won. It is essential to maintain a presence on social networks, myself or others, so that people of good faith can keep their bearings and do not only have access to disinformation. , he concluded.
