2022 Vanier Cup at home of Mustangs


Vanier Cup champions in 2021, the Western Mustangs will have the opportunity to defend their national title on their home turf this year, as U SPORTS confirmed Thursday the award of hosting the final of the Canadian university football to Team Ontario and the City of London.  

The municipality will host the event for the first time in its 57-year history on November 26. If the Mustangs reach the final round, they will try to become the second team to retain their national crown in front of their fans: the Laval University Rouge et Or accomplished the feat in 2013.   

“London and Western provide participating teams and fans with unparalleled accommodation, dining and sports facilities. We know visitors who come to watch the 2022 Vanier Cup game will have a memorable experience and we can't wait to see this game kick off,” U SPORTS Chief Athletic Officer Lisette said in a statement. We are very excited about the opportunity to celebrate Western's proud football tradition, showcase all the great things our university and city has to offer, and welcome fans from across the country to our newly renovated stadium, with a CFL regulation size playing surface and seating for over 10,000 spectators.”

In addition, U SPORTS also unveiled the finals logo which will be broadcast on TVA Sports. The symbol features the Middlesex Memorial Tower at University College, a century-old monument dedicated to Canadians from Middlesex County who gave their lives in the First World War. 

The Vanier Cup will feature the winners of the national semi-finals held on Saturday November 19th. Representatives of the Quebec Student Sports Network will play in the Mitchell Cup against their counterparts from Ontario, while the Hardy Cup will be the scene of a duel between the champions of the Atlantic and the West. . 

Western has 15 Vanier Cup appearances, a national brand, and has won eight times.
