An international group of scientists and operators relieves in these days of popular scientific film about the underwater inhabitants. Working in the Indian ocean, the expedition sent Five Deeps hardware in one of its deepest points, the Sunda trench. This depression, which extends for 4-5 thousand kilometers, starting from the continental slope of Myanmar in the direction of Java. Maximum depth is 7729 meters.
According to the researchers, the Indian ocean is the most “populated” among all the world’s oceans, but studied it a little. The recent meeting – the amazing “gelatinous” creature, similar to a balloon – confirms this view.
“Balloon” reminds met 20 years ago in the waters of Japan ascidia (lat. Ascidiacea), but only partly: the “threads” down from the top of the jelly-like body. Meanwhile, the class of ascidians consists of 2000 species, and expedition leader Alan Jamieson (Alan Jamieson) does not exclude that the found them a new species: to date there are no records of living organisms, inhabiting depths of more than 6500 meters in the Indian ocean.
Ascidians in larval stage ascidians swim freely in the water. After several days of wandering they find a suitable place and become sedentary, being attached to the surface. So probably happened with the “air scoop”: he chose the seismically active zone “thread-foot” holds it “home”. Its length allows the creature to rise a meter above the bottom.
Next stop The Five Deeps Expedition will occur in the area of the Mariana trench. It is better understood: from there, even being broadcast.
