The leader was to travel to Minsk during the day with IIHF General Secretary Horst Lichtner. The two men were scheduled to meet Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to discuss various issues surrounding the hosting of the 2021 World Hockey Championship in that city and in Riga, Latvia.
However, their project fell through because they tested positive for COVID-19 and must remain in isolation at their respective homes.
In addition, Fasel said in a statement that this does not change preparations for the World Junior Championship which will begin in Edmonton on December 25.
“The IIHF staff and managers who have to come to work continue to follow their quarantine before their departure, a process also compulsory for all the teams involved and the referees”, recalled the president of the federation.
