The new head of the liberal Party believes that it is necessary to tackle the problem of racism and racial profiling in Quebec.
“It is necessary to recognize the situation. It is not necessary to feel guilty and we should not pretend that the situation does not exist. I think it will really have a dialogue, somewhat in the same vein as the dialogue we had on the bullying”, she explained in an interview with LCN.
According to her, there is a need to identify the problem and then work together to curb the problem. “We know that racism exists, let’s name the things and say how we will collectively work to change attitudes,” added the head of the PLQ.
She is said to have been deeply shocked by the arrest and death of George Floyd last week in Minneapolis, in the United States.
“There is a person who has died not because of what she made, actions she has taken, but simply because of the color of his skin. The blatant injustice that occurs and recurs, it’s really shocking,” she says.
It is believed that the direction taken by the american president Donald Trump would not help to stir up the tensions that have shaken the country.
