The borders reopened in Europe… a little, a lot, or not at all

Les frontières rouvrent en Europe... un peu, beaucoup, ou pas du tout

Vienna-After three months of isolation inside their national borders, the Europeans are going to find on Monday the opportunity to travel more easily from one country to another, due to the decline of the pandemic of novel coronavirus.

But be careful before bringing her suitcases : the return to the freedom of movement inside the Old continent is done in a disorganized manner and the map of Europe present a mosaic of green, amber and red, depending on the source or the destination.

They are already available

Italy had given the signal after the June 3, by reopening all the passengers… even though most of the States maintained restrictions with this country, which was one of the homes of the pandemic in Europe.

Other countries in a hurry to save his tourist season, Croatia has also accelerated the appeal, and reopened its borders as of Thursday, just as Poland, which is accessible to all european citizens from Saturday.

Many countries have chosen the “strategy onion”, in opening up these last few weeks to their neighbours first, before broadening the scope of movement. Thus, it is already possible to circulate without control in central Europe or Baltic Country to the other.

On a continent where each country had to be barricaded since mid-march, the two States were exceptions: in Sweden has remained in principle accessible to travellers from the EU, and the Luxembourg. The cross-border workers essential to the economy have benefited from pass for going back to the Grand duchy.

They reopened Monday

Belgium, France, germany, Greece recover Monday morning, the freedom of movement with all the countries of the continent. Athens, whose economy is based in large part on tourism, goes even further and invites travellers from many regions outside the EU – such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, China.

German and Austrian patienteront until Monday midnight before you can take road, rail or air to the rest of Europe.

Among the countries that will raise their controls, or have already done, many of them (Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, etc.) maintains, however, restrictions for travelers from european destinations, where the infection rate is still considered to be too high.

Each country has made up its list, more or less long of at-risk areas. Sweden and Britain are invariably. There often in addition to Spain and Portugal. Sometimes the netherlands, Belgium, France.

Either the travel from or to these destinations are to be avoided, a screening test is negative at Covid-19, or isolation to 14 days are required.

France warns that it will apply “reciprocity” to countries imposing restrictions on its nationals.

They are still gun-shy

Romania will not reopen its borders Monday for non-national and does not give any specific date.

Portugal and Spain will be waiting for the 1st of July to accommodate the tourists, leading to the reciprocity of several countries, such as France which continue in the immediate future its controls with this neighbor.

In the framework of a pilot project, the Balearic islands will, however, receive about 11 000 Germans from the 15th of June.

Norway will reopen Monday its borders to other nordic countries, with the exception of Sweden. Denmark is just as selective, by limiting, at this stage, its welcome to people from Germany, Norway or Iceland.
