The Cévennes and Translozérien lines are being modernized: the trains will be stopped

Les fermetures auront lieu par tronçons. Midi Libre – THIERRY LEVESQUE

Des autocars de substitution sont prévus pendant les fermetures nécessitées par la réalisation de travaux sur la ligne Nîmes – Alès – Génolhac et sur la ligne Le Monastier – La Bastide.

In 2024, SNCF Réseau is carrying out major operations on the Cévennes and Translozérien lines, requiring an interruption of rail traffic, in order to guarantee the safety of personnel and the smooth running of construction sites.

This work represents an investment of around 11.7 million euros invested by the State (60.9%), the Region( 31.1%) and SNCF Réseau (8%) for Cévenol, and 7.8 million euros invested by the State (25%), the Region (66.5% ) and SNCF Réseau (8.5%) for the Translozérien.

The main operations concern for the Nîmes – Alès – Génolhac line, the renewal of 12 kilometers of track (rails,
sleepers and ballast), the regeneration of two tunnels, the securing of a rock wall and the reinforcement of a retaining wall.

For the Le Monastier – La Bastide line, the renewal of 5 kilometers of track, the securing of six rock walls and the removal of a snow guard gallery.

Most of this work will take place during line closures scheduled mainly during school holidays in order to minimize the inconvenience for subscribers and schoolchildren.

Starting February 10

The work will take place in several phases which will require the interruption of rail traffic in the following sectors. From February 10 to 25, interruption of traffic between Alès, La Bastide, Mende and Marvejols; from April 2 to 7, interruption of traffic between La Bastide, Mende and Marvejols; from April 6 to 7: interruption of the line from Alès; from April 8 to 21, interruption of traffic between Nîmes and Alès and between La Bastide, Mende and Marvejols; from April 22 to May 5, interruption of traffic between Génolhac, La Bastide, Mende and Marvejol and from May 6 to 24, interruption of traffic between La Bastide, Mende and Marvejols.

North of Langogne, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, traffic has been interrupted since December, due to a landslide that occurred in the Monistrol-d’Allier sector. Following the work to clear the rock blocks, regeneration work on the railway planned as part of the CPER will be carried out. Once this work is completed, traffic on this axis will then be able to resume in May.

During these work periods, replacement coaches will be put in place.
