La Ville de Laval devrait acquérir une partie de l’île Gagnon, selon l’opposition

The official opposition in Laval proposes that the City acquire 71.5% of the area of the island Gagnon, home to the former mansion of Celine Dion, for protection of green spaces.

Recall that the promoter Francois Duplantie wants to install on the island a complex of 660 condos, in addition to a five-star hotel, a spa and two restaurants. A new bridge would link the island to the boulevard Curé-Labelle.

According to the Party Laval, the proponent “does not seem to get the social acceptance required for its project”. Since the proponent’s submission in mid-June, the project is talking in the third as the most populous city of Quebec. Not less than 30 questions about this were raised at the meeting of municipal council Tuesday.

That is why the opposition party is proposing that the City buys two lots representing 71.5% of the area of the island, to protect it. This would increase 250% the area of the side of the Withers, where are located the installations in the park of the Rivière-des-Mille-Îles.

Asked about its position in the folder Tuesday, the mayor of Laval, Marc Demers “has reserved its judgment after completing the entire evaluation process, including the concept of social acceptance”. At this time, the 5000 citizens of the district of Sainte-Rose are invited to complete a survey distributed to their door. The results are expected towards the end of the summer,” said the mayor.
