Many gourmands responded, on the evening of Friday October 4, in the city center of Alès, to the call of the beef on the spit of the Cevennes Week.

Before a very busy weekend of events in the city centre of Alès, the Semaine cévenole (*) got down to business with its traditional medieval meal served, once again on the evening of this Friday 4 October, on the town hall square. And once again, the feasts were concocted by Gilles Gensonnie's team, head of the Genson’Broche company, which had set up shop early in the morning to prepare the essential spit-roasted beef and aligot.

What was on the menu…

At 9 o'clock, the beast from the breeding of this Cantalien from Chalvignac was ready to turn on its spit all day long. A 5-year-old Salers cow, whose carcass weighed 325 kg, enough to feed "800 people. To have some margin…", smiled the farmer. To accompany their piece of meat, the guests could count on aligot, prepared early in the afternoon. And the quantities, there too, were mind-boggling: 200 kg of potatoes, 80 kg of fresh Cantal cheese, ten litres of crème fraîche, five to six kilos of butter and three kilos of garlic.

And entertainment to accompany the guests

Even before 7pm, the service began. A long queue formed throughout the evening for these festive feasts, punctuated by music from the Aragorn group and the quarrels of the riders from the Réal stables. In a good mood, of course! And while waiting for the fireworks display that would then set Fort Vauban ablaze. A good evening.
