As early as the first week of the reopening of the bars in Quebec, the Mile Public House was full to bursting, and the rules and distancing social completely squeezed out during some evenings.

Images obtained by TVA Nouvelles is possible to note that at this bar in the Quartier DIX30, in Brossard, the nightlife had taken on a life as if there had been no pandemic.

Difficult to effectively maintain social distancing in this type of establishment, particularly because of the consumption of alcohol, which makes customers less alert, said the regional director of public health, Julie Loslier, in an interview with LCN, a Monday morning.

In some bars and clubs in the greater Montreal area, social distancing was also found to be difficult during the weekend.

A possible outbreak, however, occurred at the Mile Public House, where about twenty young people who have frequented the establishment on the 30th of June last were declared positive at the COVID-19 by the following.

The young people did not know that they were contaminated at the time where they have prevailed in the DIX30, said the public health in the Montérégie region.

Industry worried

The Association of the Bar of Quebec (NABQ) is concerned to see cases of establishments where the sanitary rules are not respected, and feared a new closure of their sector of activity.

According to Pierre Thibault, president of the Association, the owner of Mile Public House was newly a member of the group, before being quickly expelled.

“This is very sad, he was expelled on the field as soon as we saw the images. In addition, we have someone here who has evidence of self-centeredness, selfishness to the max. It casts a shade on all that had been done well by the majority of the tenants of bars,” said Mr. Thibault.

“This is the worst example of how one should behave as a bar owner.”

VAT News has tried to speak with the owner of the establishment, which has not responded to requests for the time being.
